Have you assembled the best possible Success Team for your business and life? If not, what is holding you back? In order to have a winning business, you need a winning team—a team of key players and stars who step up, but who also balance each other out.
Look at you Success Team as you would a sports team, and consider something former Chicago Bulls great Michael Jordan once said: “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.” Great words from a guy who knows a little something about winning. Now, I assume many of you are going for that championship win in your business, and if you are, you need motivated, skilled players to join your team, to encourage you, to push you, to help you, and ultimately to teach you. When a coach puts a team together, he not only chooses the best players, he also chooses specific players who will balance one another out and bring out the best in each other, as well as in the team.
So what exactly do I mean by this? I’ll stick with the sports metaphor and use another Chicago team, the NHL’s Blackhawks, fresh off their Stanley Cup victory, to illustrate this idea of a Success Team.
First of all, you need your stars, and the 2013 Hawks were a team loaded with them with Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. These are stars among stars in the League, and in the case of Kane, a clutch player to boot. To help Kane and Toews, there was Marian Hossa, a star in his own right, but he’s been around the League a long time now, and he’s been to the Finals four times with three teams, winning twice with Chicago. His experience informs him on how to win. Behind all that firepower up front, the Hawks had goaltender Corey Crawford, and hockey teams just don’t hoist the Cup without a steady netminder, and your business is no different. From youth to experience, from grinder to sniper—the Hawks had all the necessary elements for a successful team, and any entrepreneur can learn a lot from them.
